Community Guidelines

Last updated: 25 September 2026

Betta Work works when customers can trust what they see and professionals are treated fairly. These guidelines apply to everyone, and they are part of our Terms of Service.

Honest listings

For professionals

  • Use your real business name, and list only trades you actually do.
  • Show real prices. A “from” price should be one you will honour for a basic job.
  • Use photos of your own work. No stock photos, no one else’s work, and no photos of people without their permission.
  • Keep your location and availability current. Switch “Available now” off when you cannot take work.
  • Put your phone numbers in the phone fields, not in photos or descriptions, so they stay hidden from search engines and from people who are not signed in.
  • One business, one profile.

Respectful contact

  • Be polite on calls, on WhatsApp and in messages, even when you disagree.
  • Contact people only about the job. No promotions, chain messages or unrelated offers.
  • Respect a “no”. If a professional declines or a customer cancels, move on.
  • Never harass, threaten or insult anyone, or treat anyone worse because of their ethnicity, religion, sex, disability or anything else about who they are.
  • Keep the details you receive private. Use a customer’s address and number only for their job.
  • Call at reasonable hours, unless the other person has agreed to an urgent job.

Honest reviews

  • Only a customer whose request was completed can leave a review, once per job. There is no other way to review, so every rating comes from a real job.
  • When a professional marks a job done, the customer is asked to confirm it was. The review opens only after they say yes.
  • A review can be written from 1 hour after the job was accepted, and up to 60 days after it was completed. It can be changed for 7 days, then it is fixed.
  • A customer who hires the same professional again can review each job, but only their latest review counts in the rating.
  • You cannot review yourself: not from your own account, a second account, one of your business numbers or your own email address.
  • Write about the job: the quality, the price, the timing and how you were treated.
  • Professionals: do not pressure a customer to leave, change or remove a review. If a review is unfair, reply calmly and publicly, or tell us.
  • Reviews containing abuse, threats, personal information or content that is not about the job may be hidden.

Fake reviews are a breach of these guidelines. That includes paying for reviews, trading discounts, favours or reviews for five stars, asking friends or family to review you, and booking jobs that never happened. For a professional found to have fake reviews:

  • First time: the fake review is removed and the professional is warned.
  • Second time: every review from the people involved is removed, and the profile shows no rating for 90 days.
  • Third time: the account is suspended.

What gets a profile reported or hidden

Report a professional if you see:

  • not turning up for an agreed job;
  • poor work, or charging much more than agreed;
  • rudeness, harassment or threats;
  • a fake profile, a business that does not exist, or someone pretending to be another business;
  • illegal services, scams, or taking money for work never meant to be done.

Our team reads every report. If three different signed-in people report the same profile within 30 days, it is hidden from search automatically until we have reviewed it. After review we may restore the profile, ask for changes, hide reviews, or suspend or close the account. Reports from people who are not signed in are read too, but they do not count towards the automatic hide.

Reporting someone falsely to harm their business is itself a breach of these guidelines.

Staying safe

Before the job

  • Read the profile: rating, reviews and jobs done.
  • Agree the price, what it covers, and when payment is due, before work starts.
  • Send a request on Betta Work, or confirm the details in its messages, so there is a record of what was agreed.

Paying

  • Avoid paying the full amount upfront. If parts or materials are needed, pay for those against a receipt, and pay the rest when the work is done.
  • Pay only the professional you agreed with, and be wary of last-minute changes to bank details.
  • Betta Work will never ask for your password or card details, or for a payment to “unlock” a professional.

Meeting

  • For jobs that are not at your home, such as car repairs, meet at the professional’s known workshop or in a busy public place, in daylight if you can.
  • For jobs at home, let someone know who is coming and when, and have someone with you if you can.
  • Keep valuables out of sight, and share only the personal information the job needs.
  • Professionals: tell someone where you are going, and leave if you feel unsafe.
  • If you are in danger, get to safety and call 112, Nigeria’s emergency number.

How to report

  • On a professional’s profile, tap Report user under their name, choose a reason, add a note if it helps, and send it.
  • To report a review, a customer or anything else, email hello@bettawork.ng with the profile link or the request reference (for example BW-7K3Q9D).
  • If someone is in immediate danger, contact the police or call 112 first.

If you made the report while signed in, we will tell you when we have reviewed it.
